If Not Us Then Who is a campaign to explore and highlight the key question of; “who is protecting our forests?”

Forests cover almost a third of the earths land surface and play a major role in stemming the effects of our rapidly changing climate by absorbing an estimated 2.4 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide each year. Within these forests live traditional and indigenous people who have a deep spiritual connection and understanding of their ancestral homes. This connection is being threatened by a resource hungry modern world. As a result, the people who call the forest their home, are now engaged in a constant and frequently violent struggle.

‘If Not Us Then Who’ communicates firsthand the unique personal stories of an inconspicuous yet vital people, as they battle to protect their lives, their cultures and our forests.

    In a digital world it is sometimes easy to overlook the impact physical media can have. The If Not Us Then Who campaign wanted to engage delegates at a series of high level environmental talks with a book that would stand out and highlight the human stories. The book contains images and quotations from the communities affected by deforestation. Sourced from sustainable paper stock with a debossed cover, the book is beautifully simple and organic feeling. During the most recent events the book has stood out and carried the message forward to the individuals who can make a difference.

    Brand continuity is important to gain recognition with any sector. Within the environmental sector it is important to not only get your message across with impact but also to be seen as a reliable source of information. If Not Us Then Who has a clear and compelling narrative which provides those with the decision making power with an easy to understand mandate to make the difference we all need to see. Our brand guideline approach has helped maintain that message throughout the campaign.

    A highly bespoke, customised, content management system allows for a minimal amount of time to spent on updating and maintaining a web strategy so that limited resources can go in to content production and the important conversations the campaign was created for. Efficient content management is worked out in close consultation with the marketing executive with simplicity being the order of the day. Simplicity removes barriers to progress and If Not Us Then Who have made progress with the campaign with this underlying philosophy.

    With social media playing an increasingly important role in marketing, brand building and SEO, we have developed a social media aggregator to magnify the effect. We built a highly customisable system which allows for cross posting between social media streams and reduces the barriers between engaging people who use particular social media platforms. The feed can also be displayed at events to show a broader section of media and to encourage social media engagement from delegates in attendance.

    Each event If Not Us Then Who attended or setup required a visual presence that immediately engaged viewers. Large format, quick setup banners where designed with emphasis on stunning photography and clear communication of key information to encourage engagement. Flyers and cards extended the engagement, providing more detail in a format that could be taken away.

    The multitude of devices and browsers a website can be viewed with has increased greatly over the last few years and with portfolio sites especially, the importance of compatibility can not be underestimated. Spencer's portfolio can to be viewed intuitively and elegantly across a broad range of devices such as iPhones, iPads, smart phones and tablets as well as the more traditional laptop and desktop viewing platforms.

    painless updates

    A website with dynamic content encourages repeat visits and keeps the If Not Us Then Who campaign in the picture with the target audience. Updates are handled internally and are easy to implement. As a consequence, repeat visits are above average as information is shared between interested and engaged parties.

    A brand consistent design, in multiple languages, was required for a short run production. Clothing is an important device to highlight your group within a crowd and to give a visual impression of your brand. If Not Us Then Who highlighted their approach with their clothing and singled themselves out in crowded environments to make them more approachable.
